Systems Engineering
  • DESE engineers and scientists provide extensive systems engineering knowledge and experience.
  • DESE has experience in concept definition, concept design, effectiveness analysis, basing studies, technology assessment, threat analysis, systems design, systems analysis, systems integration, and test and evaluation.
  • DESE has conducted systems analysis and engineering for a variety of systems to include FCS, MEADS, NMD/GMD, THAAD, and PATRIOT.
Modeling & Simulation
  • DESE performs a wide range of modeling and simulation and modeling
  • Advanced Systems Engineering Modeling and Simulation:
    • We are actively developing and applying a wide array of innovative simulation and modeling technologies for missile, rocket, and related applications for agencies such as the Army Material Command and on various weapons systems.
  • Operational Modeling and Simulation
    • We also modeling organizational and supporting system operations. Many times we do this in the context of an Enterprise Architecture. Various types of static models are developed and represented in a dynamic workflow simulations.
Enterprise Architecture
  • Enterprise Architecture (EA) is the practice of applying a comprehensive and rigorous method for describing a current and/or future structure and behavior for an organization's processes, information systems, personnel and organizational sub-units, so that they align with the organization's core goals and strategic direction.
  • DESE utilizes several architecture development methodologies and paradigms such as Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework (FEAF), Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF), and service-oriented architecture (SOA).
  • DESE Research won the prestigious "DoD Leadership in Enterprise Architecture" award in 2005 and has developed several hundred architectures.
Software Engineering and Development
  • DESE has extensive software engineering and development experience.
  • DESE has experience in conception, development and verification of a software system, specification of software functionality, reliability, maintainability, availability, testability, ease-of-use, portability, and other software attributes.
  • DESE has experience preparing design and technical specifications.
  • DESE understands the software development process and has participated in multiple programs that follow CMMI practices and are ISO certified.
  • DESE has a knowledgeable staff of experienced software developers.
Database Engineering
  • DESE develops databases and relational databases for users by identifying their requirements, database tasks, identifying data needed to support tasks, and mapping the data to an implementation.
  • DESE has experts in Enterprise level database management systems such as Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle down to desktop databases such as Microsoft Access (including “web” databases such as MySQL).
  • DESE utilizes engineering tools and processes that support user requirements management, formal specifications, user interface design protocols and development scheduling.

Information Assurance and System Security
  • Information Assurance (IA) is the science of managing the risks to information assets.
  • DESE provides IA Certification support and Network Certification support with with multiple CISSPs and CISSEPs on staff with numerous years of experience in instructional environments.
  • DESE provides training to the CISSP level under the auspices of ISC2. Our instructors can come to your location to minimize travel for your personnel, or we can provide training at one of the DESE locations across the country.
  • DESE has extensive experience in developing customized test plans that validate network security procedures, policies, and settings. We also facilitate the completion of required checklists and questionnaires and assemble the complete DITSCAP/DIACAP package.
  • DESE can coordinate and oversee the Networthiness Certification Program process, create the required Enterprise Architecture diagrams, construct the appropriate SSAA documentation (which is the basis for the CON submission), and complete the checklist for a successful CON submission.
  • DESE also perform Systems Security systems engineering activities. We are currently performing this work for multiple systems programs and organizations.
Requirements Determination & Assessment
  • Requirements analysis encompasses all of the tasks that go into the instigation, scoping and definition of a system.
  • DESE is familiar with the systems and software engineering practices and processes of most of the major aerospace companies.
  • DESE supports processes from large systems engineering projects to smaller, more agile development processes.
  • DESE engineers bring the necessary systems engineering, software engineering, and operational experience to facilitate the requirements development process.
  • DESE is familiar with all of the major requirements development and management tools.
Systems and Software Testing
  • Testing is the process used to help identify the correctness, completeness, security, and quality of system hardware and software.
  • DESE understands that effective testing of complex products is essentially a process of investigation, not merely a matter of creating and following routine procedure.
  • DESE is experienced in planning, conducting, and evaluating of test results on several major programs to include MEADS, THAAD, and NMD/GMD.
Threat Asssessment & Analysis
  • DESE performs system threat assessment and capabilities analysis
  • We identify threats, threat capabilities, and define cost-effective risk mitigation strategies to counter those threats for a system
  • DESE has performed system threat assessment for several major DoD systems.
Verification & Validation
  • Verification and Validation (V&V) is the process of checking that a system meets specifications and that it fulfills its intended purpose.
  • DESE provides V&V analysis services in support of the system and software engineering process.
  • DESE has performed V&V in support of several major government and commercial customers.
  • DESE has an Organizational Conflict of Interest (OCI) program in place to ensure that any potential OCI issues are mitigated between customers.
